Instagram has rolled out an innovative feature that allows creators to link their reels, fostering a more immersive viewing experience for audiences. This update, revealed on Thursday, aims to cater to the increasing popularity of episodic content among creators who wish to develop themes or storylines across multiple reels. Named Linked Reels, this new capability enables creators to connect related reels, making it simpler for viewers to engage with interconnected content. Creators can link both newly uploaded and previously published reels, though content shared solely with close friends or subscribers will not be included in this feature. When uploading a reel, users will find a new option labeled 'Link a reel' beneath the caption area. This allows them to choose an existing reel to connect, assign a brief title of up to 15 characters for the link, and share the content with their audience. Additionally, creators can retroactively link older reels by editing their previous posts. The feature comes equipped with options to modify or remove links at any time, providing creators with the flexibility to rearrange or update their series as needed. Instagram has stated that this development is a direct response to feedback from creators, indicating a strong demand for tools that enhance episodic storytelling. While the exact timeline for a global rollout remains undisclosed, the feature is anticipated to be widely accessible in the coming weeks. With this strategic addition, Instagram is aiming to boost user engagement, particularly as short-form video content continues to be a highly competitive segment in the social media landscape. By promoting series-based content, the platform could also help creators maintain their audience’s attention over extended periods.
