In a significant announcement made on Thursday, Instagram revealed that it will soon allow users to rearrange their profile grids, a feature that has been highly anticipated by its community. Alongside this, the platform is testing a new option for users to post content to their profiles discreetly, preventing those updates from appearing in the feeds of their followers. The ability to customize grid layouts has been a long-standing request from users. Previously, posts were displayed in chronological order, with the only way to keep older content visible being to pin it. This update aims to empower users to curate their profiles and emphasize specific posts, enhancing the visual appeal of their grids. This announcement follows comments made by Instagram head Adam Mosseri earlier this year, indicating that the company was exploring the implementation of this feature. Although initial development began in 2022, the rollout was delayed until now, with 2025 marking the anticipated launch of this exciting update. Additionally, the quiet posting feature is currently being tested and is expected to be available more widely soon. Mosseri emphasized the importance of creative expression and acknowledged that posting can be intimidating. This new functionality is designed to alleviate the pressure users feel when sharing their content publicly, appealing particularly to those who wish to develop their profiles without the scrutiny of likes and comments. The feature bears similarities to trial reels, which allow creators to test new content without it being visible to their followers. Instagram reported that 40% of creators who utilized trial reels began posting Reels more frequently, with 80% of these posts reaching non-followers. Furthermore, Instagram is enhancing user engagement with a new integration that allows users to share songs directly from Spotify to their Instagram Notes, showcasing their musical tastes to followers. In tandem with these updates, Instagram announced its 'Drafts' initiative aimed at supporting emerging creators through various forms of assistance, including financial backing and collaborative opportunities. An Instagram spokesperson clarified that Drafts is not a traditional creator fund but a program designed to adapt to the unique needs of individual creators, helping them to flourish in their creative endeavors.
