Instagram’s TV app is launching on Google TV devices

Instagram has officially rolled out its Instagram for TV app on Google TV devices across the United States, just two months following its initial launch on Amazon Fire TV. This innovative app was designed to extend the viewing experience of Reels beyond mobile screens, allowing users to engage with their Instagram feeds directly from the comfort of their living rooms. By introducing Reels to television platforms, Instagram is strategically positioning itself to compete with YouTube, which has a significant presence in the TV market. The app aims to facilitate a seamless viewing experience, akin to flipping through traditional TV channels while lounging on the couch. In addition to Instagram, rival TikTok has also developed a TV app, intensifying the competition in this space. The Instagram for TV app is tailored to each user, showcasing Reels based on their preferred content and creators from the main Instagram app. Reels are categorized into various topics such as comedy, music, and lifestyle, and are organized into channels for easy access. One of the standout features of the app is its automatic playback of Reels, eliminating the need for users to scroll manually to watch subsequent videos. The app also includes interactive features, allowing users to like, comment, and share Reels. Users can link the TV app with their existing Instagram accounts and even add up to five accounts in one household setup or opt to create a new account exclusively for TV viewing.
