Meta has announced that Instagram will require its U.S.-based employees to return to the office five days a week, starting from February 2. This policy aims to cultivate a more innovative and collaborative workplace, as outlined in a memo from Instagram's chief, Adam Mosseri. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to streamline operations within the company. Mosseri has expressed a desire to cut back on meetings and encourage employees to focus on developing product prototypes rather than relying on traditional presentations and written reports. A spokesperson for Meta clarified that this new return-to-office policy is specific to Instagram and does not extend to other apps within the Meta ecosystem, such as Facebook or WhatsApp. This move follows a previous mandate issued in September 2023, requiring staff across Meta's platforms to work at least three days from a physical office. This trend aligns with similar policies adopted by major tech firms like Amazon and Google. As companies continue to navigate the post-pandemic landscape, many have begun enforcing a full-time in-office work schedule. This shift is seen as a strategy to enhance collaboration and reduce bureaucratic layers. Notably, Amazon implemented its five-day work week mandate in January 2025, joining other firms such as AT&T, Boeing, and Dell Technologies in this new approach.
