Instagram has introduced an exciting new feature that enables users to reshare Stories from public accounts, even if they haven't been tagged. This update was confirmed by the company through a post on Threads, highlighting that creators have the option to disable this feature in their privacy settings. This enhancement is designed to simplify the sharing process, especially in cases where users might be forgotten in tags. Previously, individuals could only share Stories after being tagged, which often hindered the sharing experience. Now, if you encounter a captivating or humorous Story from a public account, you can easily reshare it without resorting to screenshots. The new resharing capability aligns with a similar feature introduced earlier this year for Reels, where users can share public Reels and feed posts directly to their profiles while automatically crediting the original creator. To use the new Story feature, simply open the Instagram app, tap on a Story from a public account, and look for the share option next to the message box. After tapping it, select "Add to your story" to post it on your own account, complete with attribution to the original creator. This update is currently being rolled out to users worldwide on both iOS and Android platforms. Many users have already begun to see this feature in action. However, for public accounts wishing to prevent their Stories from being reshared, they can adjust their settings by navigating to Settings & Activity in the app, selecting Privacy, and toggling off the option labeled "Allow sharing to story." Once this is disabled, followers will no longer have the ability to reshare those Stories.
