Instagram's AI-powered ‘Your algorithm’ feature helps users customise Reels feed

Instagram has rolled out an innovative feature that allows users to tailor their Reels experience using artificial intelligence. Dubbed 'Your Algorithm,' this new update gives individuals the ability to personalize the topics that influence their Reels and receive suggestions that are more aligned with their interests. As part of this enhancement, users will notice a new icon featuring two lines and a heart while they browse Reels. By tapping this icon, they can access their Algorithm, revealing topics that Instagram believes resonate with them. Additionally, users can specify which subjects they wish to see more of or less, leading to a more customized recommendation system. In a recent blog post, Instagram emphasized its commitment to enhancing user control: "Instagram is leading the way in giving you more control, so your Reels feel relevant and made for you. We’re starting with the Reels tab, and are planning to bring this ability to Explore, and more places in the app soon." The new feature highlights users' top interests at the forefront, summarizing the topics that matter most to them. Furthermore, individuals can refine their preferences by entering specific topics they would like to see more or less frequently. Users will also have the option to share their Algorithm with friends and followers, providing a glimpse into their personal preferences. Currently, this feature is available to users in the United States, with plans for a global rollout for English speakers already underway. Instagram is not alone in exploring AI-driven enhancements; other platforms are also starting to leverage this technology. For instance, Elon Musk has introduced Grok AI on X (formerly Twitter) to improve post ranking in users' timelines. Grok AI is designed to analyze a vast array of content to connect users with the material they are most likely to enjoy. Similarly, YouTube has initiated a project called 'Your custom feed' aimed at utilizing AI to help users personalize their Home feed recommendations. As the landscape of social media evolves, these AI innovations promise to give users more agency over their online experiences.
