In a significant achievement for the platform, Instagram has reached a staggering 3 billion monthly active users, as announced by Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, on his Instagram account this Wednesday. Reflecting on this milestone, Zuckerberg expressed pride in the vibrant community that has formed around the app. This landmark figure marks a pivotal moment for Instagram, especially considering that Meta acquired the photo-sharing service in 2012 for $1 billion. The last time Meta shared user statistics was in October 2022, when Zuckerberg revealed that Instagram had surpassed the 2 billion monthly user mark during an earnings call. In a shift in its reporting strategy, Meta indicated in April 2024 that it would no longer provide detailed updates on the monthly and daily active users for Facebook and its associated applications quarterly. Instead, the company has begun reporting the total number of daily active users across its family of apps. As of July, this figure stood at 3.48 billion, exceeding market analysts' expectations of 3.45 billion. With this new user milestone, Instagram now stands alongside Facebook and WhatsApp, both of which also boast over 3 billion monthly active users. In earlier statements, Zuckerberg confirmed that the Facebook app itself is utilized by more than 3 billion users monthly, while WhatsApp has also crossed the same threshold. This growth reflects the ongoing expansion and popularity of Meta’s platforms in the competitive social media landscape.
