Instacart acquires Instaleap to expand its enterprise platform internationally

Instacart has made a significant move by acquiring Instaleap, a grocery technology company based in Colombia, as announced on Tuesday. The specifics of the financial agreement were not revealed. Founded in 2019, Instaleap specializes in global fulfillment solutions, assisting retailers in optimizing and scaling their online operations. With a presence in nearly 30 countries across Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East, Instaleap has established itself as a key player in the grocery tech landscape. While Instacart is primarily recognized for its grocery delivery service in North America, the company has been pivoting towards enhancing its retail technology and fulfillment services in recent years. Its platform, Storefront Pro, currently supports e-commerce operations for over 380 grocery retailers, including well-known names like Aldi, Costco, Publix, and Sprouts. Furthermore, Instacart's Carrot Ads service enables more than 310 retailers to effectively manage their online and in-store advertising strategies. This acquisition is a strategic step for Instacart, allowing the company to penetrate international markets without the immediate need to establish a delivery network in those areas. Initially, Instaleap will function as a fully-owned subsidiary under the Instacart umbrella, with plans to integrate more of Instacart's enterprise technology into Instaleap’s offerings over time. Ryan Hamburger, Instacart's Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the potential for international growth, stating, "We see a meaningful opportunity to expand internationally through an enterprise-led strategy that empowers retailers across the globe to meet the evolving omnichannel needs of their customers." He emphasized that the integration of Instaleap’s technology and expertise would significantly enhance their ability to serve retailers and consumers worldwide. Antonio dos Santos Nunes, co-founder and CEO of Instaleap, expressed enthusiasm about the merger, noting, "We’ve built our platform with a deep focus on the unique needs of grocery retailers across diverse international markets. Joining Instacart enables us to scale our impact with the support of a trusted partner that shares our commitment to retailer success."
