Meta has emerged as a major player in the tech salary arena, particularly for roles in artificial intelligence and engineering. Recent data reveals that the top UX researchers at the company can earn up to $350,000 annually, while product managers see salaries reaching as high as $314,159. When it comes to engineering positions, software engineers at Meta can take home base salaries of up to $480,000. In the realm of machine learning, research engineers can command salaries of as much as $440,000. Even roles in data science are lucrative, with earnings hitting $270,000. These figures come from federal filings related to the H-1B visa program, which offers insights into compensation structures as tech companies compete fiercely for talent. The disclosed salaries reflect only annual pay and do not account for stock options or signing bonuses, which can significantly enhance total compensation. As Silicon Valley intensifies its quest for top AI talent, Meta is reportedly offering staggering packages, with some AI research roles valued at up to $300 million over four years as part of its plans for a new Superintelligence lab. A spokesperson for the company opted not to provide further comments on these figures. The competition is not limited to Meta alone. The recently established Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, is already offering base salaries of up to $500,000 to its technical staff, despite having not launched any products yet, as reported by Business Insider. The stakes have escalated to a personal level as well; following Meta’s recruitment of several researchers from OpenAI, including Trapit Bansal, OpenAI's chief research officer, Mark Chen, expressed in an internal memo that the situation felt akin to a breach of their home. This highlights the fierce rivalry that defines the current landscape of AI talent acquisition in the tech industry.
