After TCS Nashik row, Infosys flags ‘zero tolerance’ as Pune harassment claims surface online

Following a recent controversy involving Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Nashik regarding alleged sexual assault and religious conversion, the IT sector in India is facing renewed scrutiny over workplace safety. Infosys has publicly reiterated its 'zero-tolerance' policy in response to harassment claims that have emerged from its Pune Business Process Management (BPM) unit. The situation escalated on social media platform X, where posts mentioning Maharashtra leaders highlighted the alleged incidents at the Pune facility. Notably, Maharashtra cabinet minister Nitesh Rane acknowledged the issue, stating that it had been 'noted.' In a statement to Business Today, Infosys expressed awareness of the allegations circulating online, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace. The company stated, 'Infosys is aware of some social media posts claiming that women employees at Infosys BPM in Pune are facing harassment. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to any form of harassment or discrimination.' Infosys outlined its robust internal safeguards and policies designed to address workplace concerns in accordance with applicable laws. The company highlighted that all reported issues are taken seriously and investigated by an independent committee, ensuring a thorough examination of each case. Furthermore, Infosys noted its proactive measures, including a 'speak-up' culture that encourages employees to voice any concerns. The organization remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity, aligned with its Code of Conduct. These recent allegations come on the heels of the TCS Nashik case, where accusations were made regarding sexual harassment and forced religious conversion. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe complaints filed by eight women, who allege mental and sexual harassment occurring between February 2022 and March 2026, as well as inaction from the human resources department. Police reports indicate serious allegations, including one individual accused of exploiting a false promise of marriage, alongside others accused of inappropriate touching and derogatory comments.
