AI disruption reshaping jobs in Indias USD 245 bn technology, CX sectors

In a significant revelation, artificial intelligence is poised to transform the job market within India's $245 billion technology and customer experience sectors, according to a new report from Niti Aayog. The organization warns that without prompt intervention, traditional roles such as quality assurance engineers and support agents may face imminent obsolescence. The report, titled 'Roadmap for Job Creation in the AI Economy,' highlights that while the tech services sector confronts the looming threat of substantial job losses by 2031, there exists a remarkable opportunity to generate up to 4 million new jobs over the next five years. By focusing on appropriate skilling and reskilling initiatives, India has the potential to become a global leader in AI-centric job roles, including positions like Ethical AI Specialists, AI Trainers, Sentiment Analysts, and AI DevOps Engineers. To harness this disruption as a chance for growth, Niti Aayog has proposed the establishment of a National AI Talent Mission. This ambitious initiative aims to position India as the world's hub for AI workforce development through a coordinated national effort. The roadmap outlines three essential pillars: integrating AI into the educational framework to ensure AI literacy becomes a core competency in schools and universities, creating a national reskilling engine to elevate the skills of millions of technology and CX professionals for advanced AI-enabled roles, and attracting both domestic and international talent to make India a prime destination for AI education. Moreover, the report emphasizes the necessity for collaboration between the proposed AI Talent Mission and the ongoing India AI Mission. Partnerships among academia, government, and industry are vital to foster an ecosystem equipped with the necessary infrastructure and data availability to nurture the next generation of innovators and researchers. The future of India's workforce in the AI economy, as outlined in the report, relies heavily on decisive actions. Niti Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam underscored that India’s greatest asset is its people. With over 9 million technology and customer experience professionals and the largest pool of young digital talent globally, the country possesses both the scale and ambition to lead. "What we need now is urgency, vision, and collaboration," Subrahmanyam asserted, highlighting the critical nature of this moment for India's tech ecosystem.
