In a significant milestone for India's technology landscape, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that semiconductors manufactured at the newly launched CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, will not only cater to domestic automotive and industrial needs but will also be exported to Japan, the United States, and Europe. During the facility's inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vaishnaw emphasized the impact of this initiative, stating, "Chips from this plant will power vehicles such as cars and scooters, and they will achieve international recognition as 'Made in India.'" He hailed this advancement as a testament to the Prime Minister's commitment to fostering a robust domestic semiconductor ecosystem. Vaishnaw credited Prime Minister Modi's leadership for making what once seemed impossible a reality, highlighting the government's dedication to establishing a semiconductor industry in India. "This monumental endeavor is now a success, showcasing the bold resolve of our leadership," he remarked. Prime Minister Modi, in his address, underscored the inauguration as a pivotal step towards positioning India as a global semiconductor hub. Sharing his thoughts on social media after the event, he expressed, "It was a pleasure to return to Sanand for this inauguration, which propels our vision of making India a center for semiconductors and advanced technologies." He further elaborated on the importance of developing industrial clusters, citing renowned examples like Silicon Valley in the U.S. and Taiwan's Hsinchu Science Park. Modi noted, "Today, Sanand is on a similar path, evolving into a semiconductor cluster where various companies are initiating production in rapid succession." Highlighting the collaborative nature of this growth, he pointed out that companies like Micron and Kaynes have already begun operations in the region. Modi stated, "A semiconductor cluster is taking shape in India, with the potential to foster a diverse ecosystem that includes specialized firms, chemical manufacturing, testing labs, and startups." He concluded by emphasizing the significant economic impact of such developments, remarking, "One industry spawns hundreds, and those hundreds create millions of jobs, ultimately transforming the economy of a region. Similar semiconductor clusters are emerging across various states in the country, paving the way for India's technological future."
