India's Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are on the verge of a historic milestone, with hiring projected to exceed 510,000 jobs by 2026—marking a staggering 3.4-fold increase since 2021. Currently, the nation hosts nearly 2,120 GCCs, a figure that reflects both the establishment of new centres and the expansion of existing ones. A significant trend has emerged, as approximately 64% of new roles anticipated by 2026 will demand expertise in AI, data science, or intelligent automation, according to the latest findings from foundit Insights Tracker. The technology and software sector, along with banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI), dominate the hiring landscape, collectively contributing to 56% of all GCC job openings. Other sectors such as healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, retail, automotive, telecom, logistics, and energy also play a role, albeit to a lesser extent. Despite a general slowdown in the white-collar job market—where overall hiring fell by 5% month-on-month and 9% year-on-year in June 2026—GCC recruitment has shown remarkable resilience. The first half of the year alone recorded 227,991 new hires, reflecting an 11% increase compared to the same period last year. While Bengaluru continues to lead in GCC hiring with a 30% share, Tier 2 cities are experiencing the most rapid growth, expanding at an impressive rate of 23% year-on-year. These emerging urban hubs now account for 15% of total GCC hiring, showcasing a shift in the recruitment landscape. Among major metros, Hyderabad stands out with a 15% share, followed closely by Pune at 12%, and other cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi NCR contributing significantly. The report highlights the importance of experience in the current hiring trends. Professionals with 4 to 10 years of experience make up 56% of GCC recruitment, indicating a strong demand for specialists in fields like engineering, AI, and cloud technologies. Meanwhile, early-career professionals (0–3 years) represent 30% of hiring and are the fastest-growing segment, benefiting from the expansion of GCCs into Tier 2 cities. In terms of specific roles, technology and digital functions dominate the hiring scene, with IT & Software Development leading at 31%. Areas such as AI, Data Science & Analytics, and Engineering & Product R&D are also growing rapidly, signaling a shift toward innovation-driven capabilities rather than traditional shared services. The hiring intensity varies across sectors, with BFSI & FinTech and Technology & Software showing the highest recruitment rates compared to their GCC presence. This suggests that these sectors are ramping up hiring efforts to match their operational needs. As companies increasingly establish GCCs not just for cost reduction but to enhance their capabilities in AI and engineering, India's depth of talent offers a strategic advantage. The emerging Tier 2 cities are further extending this capability, marking a significant evolution in the GCC landscape. According to Tarun Sinha, CEO of Foundit, this trend underscores India's potential as a global hub for AI and digital expertise, moving beyond traditional support roles.
