ISRO developing 40-storey rocket to launch 75,000 kg satellites into low earth orbit

In a groundbreaking announcement, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan revealed that the Indian Space Research Organisation is in the process of developing a rocket that reaches the height of a 40-storey skyscraper. This innovative rocket is engineered to transport satellites weighing up to an impressive 75,000 kilograms into low Earth orbit. Speaking during the convocation ceremony at Osmania University in Hyderabad, Narayanan reflected on the remarkable evolution of India's space capabilities since the pioneering efforts of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He noted, "The capacity of our rockets has grown tremendously. The first launcher, developed by Dr. Kalam, could lift 17 tonnes and place just 35 kilograms into low Earth orbit. Now, we are conceptualizing a rocket that can launch 75,000 kilograms into space." The ISRO chairman also outlined several significant projects on the horizon for this year. These include the NAVIC satellite, the N1 rocket, and a mission to deploy a 6,500-kilogram communication satellite for the United States using Indian launch vehicles. Additionally, the agency is gearing up to send the Technology Demonstration Satellite (TDS) and the GSAT-7R, a military communication satellite designed for the Indian Navy, into orbit. Currently, India boasts an operational fleet of 55 satellites. However, Narayanan projected that this number could triple within the next three to four years, marking a significant expansion of the country's satellite capabilities. During the event, Narayanan was honored with an honorary Doctorate of Science degree by Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, recognizing his substantial contributions to advancing India's space endeavors.
