G42, Cerebras to deploy 8-exaflop AI supercomputer in India to boost sovereign AI

A revolutionary AI supercomputer boasting an astonishing 8 exaflops of computing power is set to be deployed in India, thanks to a collaboration between Abu Dhabi's G42 and US-based Cerebras. This monumental initiative aims to enhance India's sovereign AI capabilities and was officially announced during the India AI Impact Summit 2026, held on February 20. The supercomputer will be housed in India and will operate under the nation's governance regulations, ensuring all data remains secure and localized. Manu Jain, CEO of G42 India, emphasized the importance of sovereign AI infrastructure for national competitiveness. He stated, "This project brings that capability to India at a national scale, enabling local researchers, innovators, and enterprises to become AI-native while maintaining full data sovereignty and security." This ambitious project is a joint effort between G42, Cerebras, the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). With its 8 exaflop capacity, the supercomputer significantly boosts India’s peak computing power, marking a pivotal shift towards exaflop-scale AI infrastructure designed to support advanced model development and deployment. Cerebras highlighted that the new system will facilitate both training and inference for extensive AI models specifically tailored to the needs of India. Andy Hock, Chief Strategy Officer at Cerebras, remarked, "Deploying this system in India marks a significant step forward in the country’s computational capacity and sovereign AI initiatives. It will accelerate training and inference for large-scale models, enabling researchers and developers to build AI tailored to India’s needs." Once operational, this state-of-the-art supercomputer will be available to a wide range of users, including universities, startups, small businesses, and government agencies. This initiative aims to eliminate barriers to AI innovation across various sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and education. The project aligns with a broader framework of India-UAE partnerships established during high-level discussions in late 2025 and early 2026.
