At a recent event in Bengaluru, Claude Smadja, the former Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, highlighted India's significant advantage in data and big data, suggesting the nation is on the brink of a major technological breakthrough. Smadja emphasized that India's exceptional capabilities in data collection and its potential for utilizing vast datasets position it as a future leader in AI and deep tech. "India is at a pivotal moment in both its domestic journey and its role on the global stage," he stated at the India Global Innovation Connect (IGIC) 2025. He underscored the urgency for India to harness this moment to propel technological innovation forward. Smadja contrasted India's trajectory with that of other global powers, noting the United States is experiencing a decline in its technological prominence, while China has successfully navigated its structural challenges to strengthen its position. Having spent over five decades observing India's evolution, Smadja characterized the nation's path as a tumultuous ride filled with both hope and obstacles. He stressed that the time is ripe for India to assert itself as a new global hub for technology innovation and entrepreneurship. The IGIC 2025, taking place on June 4-5, will feature participation from leading industry figures across various countries, including the US, Japan, and Germany, marking a significant gathering aimed at fostering innovation.
