LinkedIn’s profile verification push is accelerating — and India is leading the charge in 2025

In 2025, the push for profile verification on LinkedIn is gaining significant momentum, with India emerging as the front-runner in this global trend. As online platforms strive to enhance trust and address authenticity concerns, LinkedIn has reported a remarkable increase in profile verifications, adding approximately 30 million each year. Oscar Rodriguez, LinkedIn’s vice president of trust products, noted that adoption rates have surged by over 38% year-over-year. This uptick follows the company’s recent announcement that more than 100 million users have incorporated at least one verification into their profiles. LinkedIn's initiative began in 2022 to clarify authenticity on the platform, initially focusing on workplace or identity confirmations through company email addresses and later expanding to include government-issued ID checks. Currently, about 60% of users who verify their profiles do so by confirming their workplace affiliation, typically using professional email credentials. In contrast, around 27% have opted to verify their identity through government-issued IDs. While the U.S. retains the largest share of verified users—accounting for approximately 40% of the 100 million verifications—India has emerged as the fastest-growing market, with an impressive 80% increase in adoption over the last year. With over 160 million users, India stands out as one of LinkedIn's largest user bases, reflecting a broader trend in professional networking, recruitment, and remote work dynamics within the region. This growth underscores how shifts in India’s workforce are influencing LinkedIn's global usage patterns. In tandem with the rise in profile verification, LinkedIn has also begun to extend its verification signals beyond its platform. Earlier this year, the company launched the “Verified on LinkedIn” program, allowing partner platforms to showcase LinkedIn verification badges. Zoom, along with industry leaders like Adobe and G2, has joined this initiative. Moreover, LinkedIn has introduced a self-serve API to facilitate the integration of verification into third-party services. The platform reports that verified users experience up to 60% more profile views and approximately 50% more interactions with their posts compared to unverified members. Verified company pages also demonstrate higher engagement levels, leading to increased visibility and follower growth. Rodriguez emphasized the importance of verifications, stating, “They provide a powerful signal of authenticity on LinkedIn, helping to support trust and integrity.” This trend signifies a pivotal shift in how professionals connect and engage in the digital landscape.
