Bharat NCX 2025 commences to bolster Indias cybersecurity preparedness

In a significant move to fortify its cybersecurity framework, India has kicked off the National Cybersecurity Exercise, Bharat NCX 2025, in New Delhi. The initiative was launched by Deputy National Security Advisor T. V. Ravichandran and attended by Bimal N. Patel, Vice Chancellor of Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU). Organized by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in partnership with RRU, this national-level cyber drill is designed under the theme "Enhancing the Operational Preparedness of Indian Cyberspace." Over the course of two weeks, cybersecurity experts, defense personnel, policy makers, and industry leaders will collaborate to simulate complex cyber incidents, such as attacks on critical infrastructure, threats from deepfakes, API vulnerabilities, and autonomous malware scenarios. In his keynote address, Ravichandran highlighted the crucial role of cybersecurity in safeguarding national security, economic stability, and public safety. He stressed that the integrity of digital infrastructure is essential across various sectors, including governance, healthcare, energy, transportation, and defense. Such high-impact cyber simulations, like Bharat NCX, are vital for preparing for potential threats. Patel, in his special address, pointed out that advancements in cyber and AI capabilities have transformed the digital landscape into a battleground for statecraft and international competition. He outlined key objectives for the exercise, which include the proactive prevention of cyber attacks, reducing vulnerability to threats, and ensuring swift recovery with minimal disruption. Bharat NCX 2025 features include live-fire cyber simulations, an AI-integrated cybersecurity framework, a Strategic Decision-Making Exercise (STRATEX) for senior leaders, and a CISO Conclave with key cybersecurity officials from both government and industry. Additionally, the Bharat Cybersecurity Startup Exhibition will present innovative Indian solutions aimed at creating a secure and self-sufficient digital environment. The exercise, running from July 21 to August 1, will conclude with a detailed debriefing aimed at refining national cyber strategies and enhancing collective resilience.
