The notorious piracy website Streameast has resurfaced, resuming its illegal streaming of sports events just over a year after its domain was seized by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). In August 2024, HSI targeted the Streameast network, seizing multiple domains, including backup sites. Users trying to access these domains encountered a notification from HSI proclaiming, 'THIS DOMAIN HAS BEEN SEIZED.' At that time, Streameast had gained notoriety as one of the leading platforms in the US for illegally watching major sporting events, including NBA, NFL, and MLB games, even boasting about users like LeBron James. Despite the seizure, HSI did not publicly comment on the complete shutdown of Streameast. The seizure notice indicated that HSI had acted under a warrant issued by the US District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. However, the operators of Streameast swiftly managed to revive the service using alternative domain names, as detailed by TorrentFreak. Remarkably, one of the domains seized by HSI has now returned to the hands of its original owners without any legal battles. They successfully re-registered the primary Streameast domain after its expiration earlier this year, according to recent reports. Some of the other Streameast domains still display HSI's seizure banner, but the return of the main site now allows for renewed illegal sports streaming activities. This unexpected turn of events raises questions about the effectiveness of HSI's efforts to dismantle the piracy network.
