In a significant move for the tech industry, IBM is forming a strategic alliance with Anthropic, an AI research lab, to enhance its software offerings with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities. Announced on Tuesday, this partnership will see Anthropic’s Claude family of large language models incorporated into several of IBM's software products. The first application of the Claude model will be within IBM's integrated development environment, which is currently available to a limited group of clients. Additionally, IBM and Anthropic have collaborated to create a comprehensive guide aimed at helping enterprises effectively build, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade AI agents. While the specifics of the partnership deal remain undisclosed, it marks a pivotal step in IBM's AI strategy. Anthropic has been actively expanding its presence in the enterprise sector, particularly following the launch of Claude Enterprise in September 2024. In a related announcement, the company secured a deal to implement Claude across Deloitte's extensive global workforce of nearly 500,000 employees, marking what Anthropic describes as its largest enterprise rollout to date. A study conducted by Menlo Ventures in July highlighted a notable trend: enterprises are increasingly favoring Claude models over other AI alternatives, including those from OpenAI. The findings revealed a decline in the usage of OpenAI’s models among businesses since 2023, underscoring the growing preference for Anthropic's offerings in the competitive AI landscape.
