IBM to brings its first Quantum Computer to Amaravati: CEO Arvind Krishna

In a significant announcement, Arvind Krishna, the Chairman and CEO of IBM, disclosed that one of the company's first two quantum computers will be located in Amaravati. The ambitious plan aims to have the system operational by September 2026, marking a pivotal moment for Andhra Pradesh as it strives to become India's 'Quantum Capital.' Krishna emphasized the importance of this advancement, stating that quantum computing is on the verge of transitioning from theoretical research into practical applications. He forecasted that within the next two to three years, businesses in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, materials science, financial services, logistics, cybersecurity, and advanced AI may start reaping substantial benefits from quantum technologies. The choice of Amaravati as a site for this cutting-edge technology was deliberate. Krishna explained that the region offers a pool of talent skilled in mathematics and physics, essential for addressing complex problems through quantum computing. He noted that the local workforce would not only benefit from this opportunity but also extend their expertise globally. Earlier this year, Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF), which officially opened its doors on April 14. This pioneering facility includes two systems, Amaravati 1S and Amaravati 1Q, designed to support scientists, researchers, startups, and students in exploring quantum computing technologies. The AQRF also facilitates the development, testing, and validation of quantum computing applications prior to their implementation on larger systems. According to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, this facility represents a unique milestone in India’s journey into the realm of quantum computing.
