Hyderabad's police force is set to integrate artificial intelligence into its investigative processes and overall policing strategy, as announced by the city's newly appointed Commissioner, V C Sajjanar. This initiative, aimed at improving the effectiveness of law enforcement, comes as part of Sajjanar's vision for a safer community. He officially took over the role from C V Anand, who has transitioned to serve as Special Chief Secretary (Home). Sajjanar, a 1996-batch IPS officer, highlighted the global trend of adopting AI technologies, indicating that Hyderabad Police will explore these innovations, including the use of drones. "Other police departments are already utilizing drones, and we will analyze their effectiveness while collaborating with manufacturers to enhance our operations," he stated during a press briefing. The Commissioner emphasized that the primary focus of his tenure will be on community welfare. This will encompass various aspects such as maintaining law and order, ensuring traffic safety, protecting vulnerable groups like women and children, and leveraging AI technology to combat cyber and financial crimes. He also outlined plans for 24/7 citizen services and improving the welfare of police personnel. Addressing the issue of drug abuse, Sajjanar expressed his commitment to tackling this pressing challenge, which he described as a threat to the youth's future. He announced a thorough review of existing drug-related cases and plans to bolster the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) alongside launching awareness campaigns, such as 'Say No to Drugs'. With the rise of cybercrimes, including various forms of fraud, the Commissioner underscored the importance of educational initiatives to protect citizens, particularly the elderly. He also raised concerns about food safety, labeling food adulteration as a serious health risk, and promised to take stringent legal measures against violators. On traffic management, Sajjanar outlined plans to set long-term objectives to alleviate congestion and enhance public safety. He condemned driving under the influence, comparing such reckless behavior to a suicide bomber's actions on the roads, and assured that strict enforcement will be prioritized. To further reinforce public safety, he announced an audit of CCTV systems citywide, both government and private, to ensure they are operational. His goal is to have comprehensive CCTV coverage to promote a safer environment for all residents. In conclusion, Sajjanar reaffirmed Hyderabad’s reputation for communal harmony and pledged to implement all necessary measures to safeguard this unique identity.
