HrdWyr raises $13 million in funding to build AI-native chips for edge computing

Bengaluru's semiconductor startup HrdWyr has successfully raised $13 million in a Series A funding round led by Ideaspring Capital. This funding aims to propel the development of its innovative AI-native chips tailored for edge computing and emerging 'Physical AI' applications. The funding round attracted notable participation from Singularity AMC, Avatar Growth Capital, and existing investor Persistent Systems. This investment aligns with India's strategic push to bolster its semiconductor industry and lessen reliance on imported chips, while startups increasingly respond to the surging demand for AI-centric computing hardware. HrdWyr plans to utilize the new funds to expedite the advancement of its AI-native System-on-Chip (AISoC) products and broaden its global customer outreach. Founder and CEO Ramamurthy Sivakumar emphasized the pivotal moment for AI, stating, "The real power of AI will be unlocked as we enter the era of Physical AI, where advanced intelligence seamlessly integrates with real-world systems." He also noted that this critical juncture necessitates a fundamental reimagining of how computing systems are designed and implemented. The startup's chips are specifically engineered for industry-targeted edge AI tasks, emphasizing efficiency, low latency, and real-time intelligent processing. Last August, HrdWyr announced a strategic partnership with consumer electronics brand boAt, further solidifying its market presence. Naganand Doraswamy, Managing Partner and Founder of Ideaspring Capital, remarked, "HrdWyr is developing a suite of AI chips that address power management and efficiency across various sectors, including white goods, electric vehicles, and data centers." Persistent Systems' Chairman and Managing Director, Anand Deshpande, highlighted that advancements in chip design are crucial for enabling next-generation enterprise and industrial AI solutions.
