HP has introduced an innovative computing solution with the EliteBoard G1a, a unique Windows system cleverly integrated into a functional membrane keyboard. This new device presents a more approachable alternative to traditional keyboard-PCs that have gained popularity over the years. The concept of a keyboard-PC dates back to the 1980s, notably popularized by the iconic Commodore 64. In recent times, however, the market has been largely influenced by the Raspberry Pi line. The Raspberry Pi 400, released in 2019, showcased a single-board computer housed within a keyboard case, offering users a compact and cost-effective desktop experience. With its array of connectivity options, including USB, HDMI, and Ethernet ports, along with a GPIO header and the Raspberry Pi OS, it provided an affordable entry point into desktop computing at just $100. The more recent Raspberry Pi 500, featuring the advanced Pi 5 and a quad-core, 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76, along with the Pi 500+ boasting NVMe SSD storage, further solidified this niche market, though primarily appealing to hobbyists and tech enthusiasts. In contrast, HP’s EliteBoard G1a aims to cater to a broader audience by integrating a powerful x86 architecture and offering support for Windows 11 Pro for Business. Equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor capable of delivering up to 50 TOPs NPU, this device promises enhanced performance for various tasks. Additionally, the EliteBoard will include a 32 W internal battery and is part of Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC initiative, signaling HP’s commitment to modern computing solutions.
