Howdy’s dated $3/month ad-free streaming service said to have 1M subscribers

In a remarkable achievement, the Howdy streaming service has reportedly surpassed the milestone of 1 million subscribers just six months after its debut, according to estimates from research firm Antenna. Launched by Roku in August, this subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform offers an ad-free experience for a monthly fee of $3. Antenna's analysis reveals that around 300,000 users signed up in the month of its launch, with steady growth contributing to an additional 100,000 subscribers in each following month. Initially, Howdy was available exclusively through The Roku Channel, Roku’s free ad-supported streaming platform, which also allows access to other services like Apple TV and HBO Max. Since its introduction, Howdy has accounted for an impressive 23% of all SVOD subscriptions made via The Roku Channel. In March, Roku broadened Howdy’s reach by offering it through Amazon Prime Video and as a standalone app for iOS and Android devices. While the service does not boast the latest blockbuster titles, its slogan, “Almost everything you want to watch,” reflects its strategy. However, users may find the selection somewhat dated, featuring films like Brooklyn’s Finest (2009), Foxcatcher (2014), and Edge of Tomorrow (2014). Additionally, the TV offerings include older series such as All of Us (2003–2007) and Mad TV (1995–2009), catering to a nostalgic audience rather than those seeking the newest releases.
