This Gemini calendar hack shows why Google is uniquely placed to win in AI

Recently, I decided to try out Google's Gemini app on my iPhone, and it quickly climbed to the top of the free app rankings on the Apple App Store. I was particularly intrigued by its 'nano-banana' image-generation feature, but soon found myself using the app for a more practical task: managing my Google Calendar. Updating calendars can often be a tedious chore, especially for group events. For instance, I participate in a bocce league that plays every Thursday evening in San Carlos, and my friend Dave, who organizes our team, recently shared our match schedule. Instead of inputting each match into his calendar and sending invites individually, he cleverly sent us a link to subscribe to a URL for the bocce calendar, which he explained in detail, making it accessible even for those less familiar with technology. As someone who prefers to avoid complicated setups, I clicked on Dave's link and captured screenshots of the bocce calendar. Then, I opened the Gemini app and simply instructed it to add these events to my Google Calendar. To my delight, after a few moments of processing, Gemini seamlessly integrated all the events into my schedule. I double-checked the times, dates, and locations, and everything was spot on. This experience highlighted how Google is uniquely equipped to streamline such tasks, thanks to its established calendar services. Unlike some competitors, such as OpenAI, Google offers tools that simplify everyday digital management, making life just a bit easier for users.
