Hinge has taken a bold step towards enhancing the online dating experience by introducing a new feature called "Convo Starters." This AI-driven innovation aims to combat the frustration many users face when matches express interest but fail to initiate meaningful conversations. The common scenario of awkward silences can leave one person feeling pressured to break the ice. To remedy this, Hinge's Convo Starters provides personalized suggestions that help users craft engaging opening lines. When a user likes a profile, they will receive three tailored conversation prompts underneath each image or prompt, ensuring a more dynamic interaction. The AI analyzes the liked profile and generates recommendations based on specific images or user details. For instance, if a match is seen enjoying a game of chess, the feature might suggest starting the conversation with a question about board games. This initiative was developed in response to user feedback, highlighting that 72% of Hinge users are more likely to consider a match when a like is paired with a message. Research from Hinge indicates that users who include a comment with their likes are twice as likely to secure a date. This feature builds on the recent launch of the AI-driven Prompt Feedback tool, which helps users refine their profile prompts by encouraging them to provide more engaging and detailed information about themselves. However, the introduction of AI features has sparked some apprehension among users, particularly within the Gen Z demographic. A survey by Bloomberg Intelligence revealed that younger users are more hesitant about utilizing AI for tasks like drafting prompts and responding to messages compared to older generations. In light of these developments, Hinge's parent company, Match Group, is investing between $20 million and $30 million into further AI advancements.
