Shares of Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) experienced a remarkable 25% increase on Tuesday, marking what could be the company's most significant single-day rise in history. This surge comes on the heels of a stellar earnings report that surpassed expectations, showcasing the company's strongest performance since 2018. The driving force behind this impressive growth was robust demand for AI-related products within HPE's server division. The company announced adjusted earnings per share of 79 cents, far exceeding the anticipated 53 cents, while total revenue reached an impressive $10.68 billion compared to the expected $9.79 billion. Particularly noteworthy was the performance of the server revenue segment, a component of HPE's cloud and AI offerings, which generated $5.45 billion—significantly higher than the $4.66 billion that analysts had forecasted. Despite the excitement surrounding these results, some market analysts are expressing caution regarding the sustainability of this demand in the server market, especially as companies continue to invest and server prices rise. Following these developments, Bernstein raised its estimates for HPE, increasing its price target from $35 to $62, while maintaining a Market Perform rating. The firm noted that much of the potential upside is already reflected in the stock price. Morgan Stanley also revised its price target, boosting it from $33 to $71. Analysts from Morgan Stanley remarked, "Similar to Dell, HPE is experiencing substantial upside due to inelastic server demand and market share growth, as servers become increasingly strategic and those with supply can command higher prices." They cautioned that the durability of this demand in relation to peak earnings risk will be a critical discussion point moving forward.
