HPE stock sinks 10% on weak guidance for fiscal 2026

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) experienced a sharp decline in its stock price, plummeting 7% in after-hours trading following the release of its fiscal 2026 guidance, which fell short of expectations. During an analysts' meeting, the company projected adjusted earnings per share between $2.20 and $2.40, a figure that does not meet the anticipated $2.40 as per LSEG forecasts. The revenue growth forecast also raised eyebrows, with HPE estimating an increase of only 5% to 10%, significantly below Wall Street's expectations of 17%. The company, known for its data center equipment, emphasized its commitment to several strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing its business. This includes a focus on networking technology tied to its recent acquisition of Juniper Networks and promoting its offerings in artificial intelligence to both sovereign and enterprise markets. CEO Antonio Neri expressed optimism about the company's direction, stating, "In HPE's new chapter, our strengthened portfolio will create more profitable growth, increasing capital return opportunities that deliver even greater value to our shareholders." In a move to bolster investor confidence, HPE's board also sanctioned an additional $3 billion in share buybacks, expanding its total repurchase plan to $3.7 billion. Earlier this year, HPE announced plans to reduce its workforce by 5%, resulting in approximately 2,500 job cuts, as part of its strategy to streamline operations and enhance profitability.
