The Means siblings, darlings of MAHA, both out of the Trump admin—for now

Siblings Casey and Calley Means, prominent figures in the Make America Healthy Again initiative, have recently distanced themselves from the political scene. Casey Means, who was nominated by President Trump for the role of surgeon general, was set to participate in a Senate confirmation hearing. However, the hearing was unexpectedly postponed as she went into labor just days past her due date. In a separate development, Calley Means has officially left his position as a Special Government Employee at the White House, a role that adheres to a strict 130-day term limit. Reports indicate that he departed approximately a month ago, although this was not publicly announced by the White House. Despite this, Calley continued to be referenced as a government employee in various press articles and at conferences, a situation he described as misleading. Critics are expressing relief at the Means siblings' absence from the government, highlighting concerns over their qualifications in health matters and potential conflicts of interest due to their wellness ventures. Calley, for instance, is a co-founder of Truemed, a wellness platform that allows users to utilize funds from health savings accounts to purchase expensive, often unverified wellness treatments, such as cold therapy and personal saunas. This raises questions, especially as the Trump administration aims to expand eligibility for tax-advantaged medical expenses, which could directly benefit Calley’s business. The Means siblings' retreat from their positions has ignited discussions about the intersection of wellness entrepreneurship and government roles, underscoring the need for clarity and expertise in public health leadership.
