Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed that HBO Max will be raising prices for all subscription tiers, reflecting ongoing trends in the streaming sector. The Basic with Ads plan will now be available for $10.99 per month, which is a $1 increase from its previous rate. The annual subscription for this tier has also seen a hike, now priced at $109.99, an increase of $10. In addition, the Standard Plan will cost $18.49 monthly, reflecting a $1.50 rise, while the yearly plan will cost $184.99, a $15 increase. Moreover, the Premium plan is now set at $22.99 per month, up by $2, and its annual fee has increased to $229.99, marking a $20 rise. These new prices will take effect immediately for new subscribers, while existing users will notice the changes during their billing cycle starting on or after November 20. This price adjustment follows a previous increase in June 2024. The announcement aligns with statements made by Warner Bros. Discovery's CEO David Zaslav, who recently indicated that HBO Max would become pricier. Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, Zaslav emphasized the platform's high-quality content, asserting that the service was underpriced. "We believe this level of quality across our company warrants a price increase," he explained, adding that the streaming service plans to address password-sharing restrictions in the future, similar to moves made by rivals like Netflix and Disney. HBO Max's price hikes come in the wake of other streaming platforms that have recently adjusted their subscription costs, including Disney+ and Hulu, which raised their prices alongside Apple’s streaming service earlier in August.
