Gushwork bets on AI search for customer leads — and early results are emerging

Gushwork, an innovative startup established in India, is making waves in the realm of online customer acquisition by leveraging AI-powered search tools. The company is focused on helping businesses attract clients from emerging platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Recently, Gushwork announced it has successfully raised $9 million in a seed funding round, which was led by Susquehanna International Group (SIG) and Lightspeed, alongside contributions from B Capital, Seaborne Capital, Beenext, Sparrow Capital, and 2.2 Capital. This funding round has elevated Gushwork's post-money valuation to $33 million, a significant jump from approximately $7.5 million following its pre-seed investment of $2.1 million in July 2023. With this latest round, the startup's total funding now stands at $11 million. The investment comes at a time when AI companies are increasingly challenging traditional search engines, prompting giants like Google to enhance their offerings with AI-generated summaries and interactive features. Founded in 2023 by Nayrhit Bhattacharya and Adithya Venkatesh, Gushwork initially aimed to assist small and medium enterprises in streamlining their workflows by integrating AI and human input. However, the growing demand for improved online visibility led the startup to pivot its focus toward search-centric marketing strategies. Bhattacharya noted that the interest in search solutions from clients became too significant to overlook. Gushwork’s platform harnesses a network of AI agents to automatically create and refresh search-optimized content, build backlinks through a coalition of 200 to 300 partner sites, and monitor incoming leads via an integrated content management system. This approach allows businesses to enhance their visibility in both conventional search results and AI-generated responses without needing extensive in-house marketing teams. Currently, Gushwork services over 300 paying clients, with approximately 95% based in the U.S. Subscriptions begin at $800 per month, and the startup has reported an annualized recurring revenue of around $1.5 million after launching its AI search-focused product just three months ago. Gushwork is projecting an increase to $3 million to $3.5 million in ARR within the next quarter, demonstrating impressive month-over-month growth rates of 50% to 80%. Notably, about 20% of traffic to Gushwork's client websites now originates from AI-driven search and chat platforms, which generate around 40% of their inbound leads. Bhattacharya highlighted that these high-intent leads are already translating into significant business results for certain clients, with one professional services firm reportedly securing contracts worth between $200,000 and $350,000 after implementing Gushwork's solutions. The startup primarily serves high-value B2B service providers, industrial distributors, and contract manufacturers in the U.S., with average subscriptions ranging from $800 to $900 monthly, translating to an annual contract value of $9,000 to $10,000. As the trend towards AI-driven discovery continues to gain traction, Gushwork plans to utilize the new funding to bolster its engineering team, enhance model accuracy, and expand its market reach. The company also has a waitlist of over 800 businesses eager to join its platform, indicating strong demand for its innovative services. Headquartered in Delaware with a presence in Bengaluru, Gushwork currently employs around 70 staff members in India, along with several contractors.
