In a groundbreaking initiative, Gujarat has launched the AI-powered 'NETRAM' Police Control Room (PCR) in Surat, marking a significant leap forward in the modernization of its law enforcement capabilities. The facility, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, showcases the state's commitment to advancing public safety through technology. The 'NETRAM' system is designed to elevate real-time surveillance and improve crime detection efficiency. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot highlighted that the control room is connected to an impressive network of 1,640 advanced cameras strategically placed throughout the city. This extensive setup includes a variety of specialized cameras, ensuring comprehensive coverage and effective monitoring. Among the sophisticated equipment are automatic number plate recognition cameras that play a vital role in tracking suspect vehicles, as well as red light violation detection cameras that autonomously enforce traffic rules. Additionally, a range of AI-enabled cameras has been deployed for broader analytical surveillance, significantly enhancing situational awareness. What sets the 'NETRAM' system apart is its integration of artificial intelligence for proactive law enforcement. Commissioner Gehlot confirmed that the control room is linked to an extensive database of known and wanted criminals. This database includes critical information and images of individuals, allowing the AI to continuously analyze real-time video feeds against the stored data. If the system identifies any movements or sightings of wanted persons, it promptly alerts control room operators. This innovative approach shifts policing from a reactive to a preemptive model, enabling officers to act swiftly in apprehending suspects and ultimately fostering a safer community for Surat's residents.
