Grammarly goes multilingual, adds support for French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese

Grammarly, the AI-driven writing enhancement platform, is taking a significant leap by introducing support for five major languages—French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. This marks a pivotal shift for the platform, which has predominantly catered to English speakers for the past 15 years. With this new capability, users across Windows, Mac, and the Chrome extension can seamlessly begin typing in any of the newly supported languages. Grammarly's intelligent system will automatically recognize the language in use, providing real-time spelling and grammar corrections along with suggestions aimed at enhancing tone, clarity, and overall flow. A standout feature in this update is the introduction of paragraph-level rewrites in the supported languages, mirroring functionality previously available only in English. Additionally, Grammarly has integrated in-line translation, allowing users to convert their text into 19 different languages without needing to exit the application. This rollout is available to both free and premium users, although the free version does come with certain limitations. Prior to this launch, Grammarly conducted extensive testing with over one million users, receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the new features. Ailian Gan, the Director of Product Management at Grammarly, stated, "Our users have long requested multilingual capabilities, and we’re excited to enhance their experience not only in the 500,000 applications and websites where Grammarly is already utilized but also in the languages they engage with daily." As Grammarly aims to broaden its reach beyond its established English-speaking user base, the company has already seen a user base of 40 million active daily users. The addition of support for these five commonly spoken languages is anticipated to significantly boost this number. Looking forward, Grammarly plans to introduce more sophisticated clarity and style suggestions for the newly supported languages throughout the next year, gradually aligning them with the comprehensive offerings available in English.
