In a recent meeting, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell gathered with leaders from major banking institutions, urging them to leverage Anthropic's innovative Mythos model for identifying security vulnerabilities. This initiative, reported by Bloomberg, has already seen JPMorgan Chase as one of the initial partners utilizing the model, with other giants like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bank of America, and Morgan Stanley also in the testing phase. Anthropic unveiled the Mythos model this week but has decided to limit access for the time being. This cautious approach is partly due to the model's impressive capability to uncover security flaws, despite not being specifically designed for cybersecurity applications. While some industry experts speculate that this may be an exaggerated claim or a strategic marketing move, the potential of Mythos is hard to ignore. The development is particularly noteworthy given Anthropic's ongoing legal challenges against the Trump administration concerning a supply-chain risk designation from the Department of Defense. This designation arose after negotiations faltered regarding the company's attempts to restrict governmental usage of its AI technologies. Furthermore, the Financial Times has indicated that U.K. financial regulators are also deliberating the implications of the Mythos model on their financial systems.
