Google’s extensive reach through Android—installed on over three billion devices worldwide—offers a unique advantage. Neil Shah, a partner at Counterpoint Research, emphasized this opportunity, stating that Google’s access to a massive Android user base allows for effective distribution and integration of its AI capabilities at scale. He noted that the company is outpacing rivals like OpenAI and DeepSeek in this regard. Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, highlighted the smartphone's pervasive presence, suggesting that Google could successfully engage users with its Gemini features. Notably, the Pixel smartphones only captured a 0.3% share of the global market in the first half of the year, a stark contrast to Samsung's 23% and Apple's 11.8%, according to IDC statistics. However, Google's primary goal appears to be showcasing the superior software and AI capabilities of Android. This approach could encourage other Android manufacturers, such as Samsung and Xiaomi, to adopt these innovative features in their devices, leading to wider dissemination of Google's AI tools.
