Gemini Spark, Google’s agentic assistant, is now available on Mac

Google has officially introduced Gemini Spark, its AI-driven assistant, to Mac users, enhancing the digital experience for many. Announced on Wednesday, the integration into the existing Gemini desktop application brings a host of new features and updates. Users can now stay informed on various topics in real time and connect Gemini Spark to additional applications, including Google Tasks and Google Keep. This launch positions Gemini Spark to better contend with other desktop AI assistants such as Claude Desktop, Microsoft’s Copilot, and OpenClaw. With the ability to interact with files stored on the computer, Gemini Spark is set to expand its functionality to manage remote tasks in the near future. Although this capability is not available immediately, Google has indicated that users will soon be able to assign multi-step tasks to Spark from their mobile devices, such as requesting information from files on their Mac. In the interim, Spark can assist users in organizing files and utilizing local content as a basis for creating new documents or spreadsheets in Google Workspace. For example, users can transform their invoices into budgeting worksheets seamlessly. Currently, Gemini Spark for macOS is in beta and is exclusively accessible to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. After its initial launch last month, feedback highlighted the absence of integration with Google Keep, which many users found frustrating. Google has responded by adding support for both Tasks and Keep, allowing users to manage simple lists and notes more effectively. Furthermore, Spark has broadened its compatibility with third-party applications such as Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, enabling a variety of tasks from making reservations to grocery shopping. Additionally, Gemini Spark now tracks topics and reacts to real-time events, improving its utility for monitoring sports scores, stock fluctuations, and breaking news. This enhancement also allows Spark to keep tabs on social media, blogs, shopping trends, and weather updates. Google has announced that it will soon introduce support for a custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling users to connect their preferred applications directly to Spark for a more personalized assistant experience.
