Gemini can now scan your photos, email, and more to provide better answers

Google has taken a significant step in AI development with its Gemini chatbot, introducing a feature that leverages personal data to deliver more tailored responses. This new capability allows Gemini to interact with your Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube accounts, thereby providing more relevant and useful answers to your inquiries. For those concerned about privacy, there’s reassurance: this personal intelligence feature is initially available only to paid subscribers and participation is completely optional. Google's AI models are already regarded as leading in the industry, and the integration of personal data is expected to enhance the quality of responses even further. As this feature rolls out over the next few weeks, users subscribed to AI Pro and AI Ultra will have the ability to connect these various data sources. You can select which accounts to link, allowing for customized privacy settings—for instance, you might opt to grant access to Gmail while keeping your Photos private. During testing, Google VP Josh Woodward noted some intriguing outcomes. For example, while searching for tires, Gemini referenced travel photos to provide different suggestions, even pulling in a license plate number from a related image. Interestingly, Gemini will disclose when it utilizes your personal data to formulate responses. If the personalized output doesn’t meet your expectations, users can easily request a new result without the influence of their personal data. Additionally, there’s the option of engaging in temporary chats that bypass account data altogether. Users retain control, with the ability to disable access to any or all data sources whenever desired.
