Google introduces Scheduled Actions in Gemini app: How the feature works

Google has launched a significant update to its Gemini app, rolling out a new feature called scheduled actions that promises to enhance user productivity. This feature, announced during the recent I/O developer conference, is now accessible to subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra plans, as well as certain Google Workspace business and educational accounts. With scheduled actions, users can set specific tasks for Gemini to perform at designated times, turning the AI assistant into a more proactive and tailored tool for daily organization. Users can, for instance, opt to receive a morning summary of their calendar events and unread emails or establish recurring reminders for content generation, such as brainstorming five new blog ideas every Monday. Sports aficionados can also benefit by scheduling match updates, while fans of entertainment can request post-event summaries of award shows. Google emphasizes that managing these scheduled actions is straightforward through a dedicated settings page within the Gemini app. This feature is designed to minimize repetitive tasks and keep users informed and organized. Exclusively available to premium plan users, this update aligns with Google's strategy to enrich its paid AI offerings amidst growing competition in the generative AI sector. Additionally, Google is reportedly testing a new AI feature that provides concise, text-based weather summaries directly within its mobile search. Currently in limited testing, this feature aims to give users a quick overview of weather conditions, including vital details such as wind speeds and precipitation chances. As this new weather summary feature is still in its infancy, its availability is restricted to certain regions, with select users in the U.S. able to access it when searching for specific city weather information through the Google app on both Android and iOS devices. Reports indicate that searches for cities like Los Angeles and San Diego have triggered this new summary, while other locations have not yet seen similar results.
