Google Gemini app is getting a major redesign on Android and iOS: Here’s what’s changing

Google is in the midst of a significant overhaul of its Gemini app, aiming to elevate both the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the platform. According to a report from 9To5Google, the redesign will affect various aspects, including the homepage and chat interface, promising a more modern and visually engaging experience. Early adopters on iOS have already begun to experience these changes, with some users sharing screenshots on Reddit. One notable update is the introduction of a pill-shaped prompt box, which offers a sleek, rounded design. Additionally, users can now easily access voice input and Gemini Live features directly from the input field, enhancing usability. A new “plus” button has also been added, unveiling a menu filled with extra features like Photos, Camera, recent images, Files, and Notebooks. Moreover, the app will incorporate a consolidated tools section, allowing users to access various AI capabilities, including image generation, video creation, and guided learning, all accompanied by brief descriptions to facilitate understanding. The homepage greeting has been refreshed as well, now welcoming users with “Hi [name], what’s on your mind?” against a backdrop of softly animated color gradients, adding a lively touch to the interface. Navigation has also seen improvements, with the model picker for switching between AI models relocated to the top-left corner as a dropdown menu, while the account switcher has been moved to the bottom of the side navigation. Finally, users can expect a set of redesigned icons throughout the app, boasting a thinner, more rounded, and cleaner look. While the rollout for all users on both Android and iOS is yet to be confirmed, the initial changes are generating excitement among users eager for the app's new features.
