Google has announced significant updates to its Gemini chatbot, enhancing its ability to learn from user interactions. The latest feature, known as Personal Context, allows the AI to remember details from past conversations, aiming to provide more tailored and relevant responses. This development marks a shift in how Gemini integrates with users, promising improved interaction based on individual chat history. Previously, Google had offered a 'personalization' option that relied on users' Google search histories to customize responses. However, this feature was met with mixed reactions and was subsequently removed. With the introduction of Personal Context, Gemini will now adapt its replies automatically based on previous chats, without the need for users to specify their preferences each time. Google assures that this new functionality will enhance the chatbot's ability to make recommendations and engage users more effectively. Nevertheless, there are concerns regarding the implications of AI becoming overly familiar, as this could potentially lead to misunderstandings or reinforce inaccurate perceptions. Initially, the Personal Context feature will be available exclusively for users of the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, with restrictions in regions such as the EU, UK, and Switzerland. Additionally, it is only accessible to users aged 18 and older. Google plans to expand this feature to include more regions and the efficient Gemini 2.5 Flash model in the future. Users will have the flexibility to toggle the Personal Context feature on or off through the main settings page, allowing for greater control over their interaction with the AI.
