Google Gemini's new Scheduled Actions tool puts it on par with OpenAI's ChatGPT

In a significant upgrade, Google's Gemini AI assistant is set to enhance user productivity with its newly launched Scheduled Actions feature. This innovative tool allows users to automate various tasks and receive personalized updates at specific times, eliminating the need for repetitive prompts. Unveiled during the Google I/O event, Scheduled Actions is now gradually being implemented. With this feature, Gemini can perform tasks on a set schedule—whether it's sending a motivational quote every morning at 7 AM, updating a grocery list every Friday evening, or providing a daily summary of essential news at lunchtime. This proactive capability positions Gemini as a direct competitor to similar functions introduced by OpenAI for ChatGPT. Gemini benefits from its integration within Google's extensive ecosystem, granting it access to services like Gmail, Calendar, and Docs. This feature allows for a more streamlined experience, whether it's reminding users to respond to important emails or summarizing travel plans found in their inboxes. According to a recent blog update from Google, users can easily modify scheduled tasks, changing the timing, adjusting content, or deleting them as needed. The feature also enables Gemini to pull information from across a user's Google account, ensuring relevant updates. For example, it can notify you when a package delivery email arrives or provide localized weather forecasts. Currently, Scheduled Actions is accessible to a limited audience. It is available exclusively to subscribers of Google’s AI Pro or Ultra plans, as well as users with eligible Workspace business or education accounts. Unlike ChatGPT, which restricts the number of scheduled tasks to ten, Google has not specified whether Gemini will have similar limitations or how it will manage expired or replaced tasks. In addition to Scheduled Actions, Google continues to enhance Gemini's functionality. An upgraded preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro, featuring improved coding capabilities, is on the horizon. Moreover, the user experience is becoming more intuitive, with users now able to swipe from the right edge of the screen for quick access to Gemini Live, replacing the previous method of tapping a dedicated button.
