Google introduces “Skills” in Chrome to make Gemini prompts instantly reusable

Google continues to solidify Chrome's position as the leading web browser with the introduction of its new feature, 'Skills.' This latest enhancement is designed to optimize user interaction with the company's AI chatbot, Gemini, which has already been integrated into various elements of the Chrome interface. 'Skills' allows users to create reusable prompts that can be accessed with a single click while browsing. This innovation does not introduce new capabilities but rather simplifies the process of executing tasks that were already possible. Previously, users had to manually reenter prompts each time they needed Gemini's assistance, whether by typing them out or copy-pasting from elsewhere. With the new functionality, users can save their frequently used prompts as Skills, making them significantly quicker to access. This feature works seamlessly across devices, ensuring that as long as users are logged into their Google account, their saved Skills are available. Users can simply type a forward slash (/) in Gemini or click a plus button to view their Skills, and a single click will execute the desired action in the current tab. Moreover, for Skills that require input from multiple sources, users can open additional tabs. While Skills are activated with immediate effect, they still follow the same security protocols as manually typed prompts. For instance, if a Skill involves scheduling an event on a calendar or sending a message, Gemini will still request user confirmation before proceeding, ensuring a secure and user-friendly experience.
