Google's latest AI numbers are huge. Here are the stats CEO Sundar Pichai just dropped.

At this year's I/O conference, Google CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled astonishing statistics highlighting the company's advancements in artificial intelligence. The name 'Google' itself is derived from the term 'googol,' representing an incredibly large number, and this seems to resonate with the latest figures shared by Pichai. He announced that Google is now processing a staggering 3.2 quadrillion AI tokens each month, a significant leap from 480 trillion just a year ago and an increase from 9.7 trillion in May 2024. This surge underscores the growing reliance on generative AI technologies across various platforms. In addition, Pichai revealed that over 375 customers of Google Cloud have utilized more than 1 trillion tokens in the past year. He also highlighted that five of Google's flagship services—Search, Gmail, Android, Chrome, and YouTube—each boast more than 3 billion users. Furthermore, Google's AI Overviews in Search attract over 2.5 billion monthly active users, while the AI Mode in Search alone has surpassed 1 billion. The Gemini app, another key offering, recently reached 900 million monthly users, a remarkable rise from 400 million just a year prior. Reflecting on the past, Pichai noted that about ten years ago, Google introduced its major machine-learning initiative at the I/O conference, positioning itself as a leader in AI long before many competitors. Today, Google finds itself in a fierce race against other technology giants like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Meta, all striving to innovate in fields such as models, agents, chatbots, and various AI services. As competition intensifies, Google's commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI remains unwavering.
