On Tuesday, Google unveiled that its Personal Intelligence feature is now available to all users across the United States. This innovative AI capability enhances the Google Assistant's responses by integrating with various components of the user's Google ecosystem, including Gmail and Google Photos. Previously exclusive to paid subscribers, the Personal Intelligence feature can now be accessed in AI Mode through Search, the Gemini app, and Chrome. Google highlighted its utility in a recent blog post, stating that it can help users find specific items, like previously purchased sneakers, or assist in planning family vacations by utilizing hotel confirmations and travel memories. While Personal Intelligence is turned off by default, users have the flexibility to activate it whenever they wish to link their Google applications. For example, in situations where users might forget their car's tire size at a tire shop, any AI chatbot could provide assistance. However, with Personal Intelligence, the Gemini app can offer more specific recommendations, like suggesting all-weather tires based on family road-trip photos stored in Google Photos. Moreover, if you're planning a trip and want to find activities and dining options suitable for the whole family, AI Mode can leverage your hotel bookings from Gmail and past travel memories from Google Photos to create a personalized itinerary. You might receive suggestions for local attractions, such as an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, inspired by the many ice cream selfies saved in your Google Photos. Additionally, if you’re searching for a new bag to complement your recent shoe purchase, Personal Intelligence in Chrome will provide tailored suggestions that reflect your shopping history and preferences. This includes nuanced recommendations, such as purses with hardware that matches your new gold shoes. Importantly, Google emphasizes that Personal Intelligence does not train directly on users' Gmail inboxes or Google Photos libraries. Instead, it focuses on specific prompts in the Gemini environment and the resulting model responses. The rollout of Personal Intelligence has commenced for free-tier users in the U.S., particularly in AI Mode in Search, and is gradually becoming available in the Gemini app and Chrome. Note that these features are exclusively available for personal Google accounts and are not applicable to Workspace business, enterprise, or educational accounts.
