Google’s AI Mode can now tap into your Gmail and Photos to provide tailored responses

Google is taking its AI Mode to the next level by introducing a feature called "Personal Intelligence", which allows the AI to access your Gmail and Google Photos for more customized responses. Announced on Thursday, this enhancement aims to deliver a more individualized user experience by leveraging the extensive data users already have within the Google ecosystem. The rollout, starting with AI Mode for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S., marks a significant leap towards creating a more personalized interaction. Following its initial launch in the Gemini app last week, Personal Intelligence connects various services like Gmail, Photos, Search, and even YouTube history to tailor responses that feel more in tune with everyday life. As users continue to engage with platforms such as Gmail and Photos, Google is able to offer personalized suggestions that set it apart from competitors. However, for those concerned about privacy, Personal Intelligence can be easily toggled on or off at any time. Robby Stein, VP of Product at Google Search, highlighted this feature, stating, "With Personal Intelligence, recommendations don’t just match your interests — they fit seamlessly into your life." Imagine planning a family vacation; AI Mode can utilize your hotel reservations found in Gmail and previous travel photos to create a unique itinerary tailored to everyone's preferences. You might receive suggestions like a nostalgic ice cream parlor, drawing from your stored memories of ice cream outings. The AI's capabilities extend beyond leisure activities. It can also assist with shopping by considering your purchasing habits and locations. For instance, if you are looking for a new coat for a trip to Chicago in March, AI Mode can suggest suitable options based on your preferred brands and the expected weather conditions. This functionality acts like a personal shopper who understands your taste and travel plans. Additionally, users can explore creative prompts with AI Mode, such as crafting an anniversary scavenger hunt or brainstorming ideas for a child’s bedroom theme. Importantly, while AI Mode utilizes data from Gmail and Google Photos, it does not directly train on your personal content, focusing instead on generating relevant responses based on specific queries.
