Google’s AI Overviews have 2B monthly users, AI Mode 100M in the US and India

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet and Google, recently provided a compelling update on the surge in consumer engagement with the company's AI applications during the Q2 2025 earnings call. Notably, the AI Overviews feature in Google Search, which offers users AI-generated summaries of search results, has skyrocketed to 2 billion monthly users, a significant leap from 1.5 billion just a few months prior. The Gemini application has also seen remarkable growth, now boasting 450 million monthly active users. Pichai emphasized the increasing demand, stating that daily requests for the app have surged by over 50% since the first quarter. Another notable product, AI Mode—designed to enhance the Google Search experience through AI chat—has reached 100 million monthly users in the U.S. and India, although it is still in the rollout phase. Looking ahead, Pichai announced plans to enhance these features with the introduction of Deep Search, an advanced research tool, alongside more personalized responses. The developer community is also thriving, with over 9 million creators utilizing Gemini, and more than 70 million videos produced using the Veo 3 AI model since May. Moreover, Google Vids, which leverages Veo technology for text-to-video AI generation within Google Workspace, has attracted nearly 1 million monthly active users. In addition, AI-powered meeting notes have been utilized by over 50 million participants on Google Meet. These statistics illustrate the escalating consumer appetite for AI capabilities, although some critics question the genuine enthusiasm for AI tools that have been prominently integrated into Google’s offerings. In terms of growth metrics, Google reported a staggering increase in the monthly tokens processed—from 480 trillion in May to an impressive 980 trillion now. Pichai highlighted this expansion as evidence of the robust demand for their AI product portfolio, attributing it to the substantial long-term investments made in their AI infrastructure. However, despite the positive growth indicators, investors reacted negatively to Google's announcement regarding an increase in capital expenditures aimed at maintaining competitiveness in the AI landscape, resulting in a decline in the company's stock shortly after the earnings report was released.
