In an exciting announcement, Google provided a sneak peek of its upcoming flagship smart home gadget, the AI-equipped Google Home speaker, which is set to debut in spring 2026. Priced at $99, this innovative device will harness the capabilities of Google’s Gemini AI and will be available in four vibrant colors: Porcelain, Hazel, Berry, and Jade. Anish Kattukaran, the Chief Product Officer for Google Home and Nest, explained in a press briefing that the timing of the launch has been deliberately chosen. The company aims to ensure that the new Gemini features are fully integrated and functional for existing Google Home users before introducing the new model. Those who currently own older devices will have the opportunity to test Gemini in Early Access, allowing them to provide feedback and report any issues. Kattukaran emphasized, "It’s essential for existing users. We don’t want to pressure you into purchasing a new model unless you choose to do so." The new speaker’s architecture is tailored for the Gemini AI, featuring a powerful processor designed to manage complex tasks like background noise suppression and echo cancellation. This means that users can engage with Gemini Live without interruptions, even if other voices are present in the room. Additionally, the speaker will include a light ring that visually communicates Gemini's status, indicating when it is listening or responding, although the Gemini Live feature will require a Google Home Premium subscription. Audio capabilities have also been enhanced, with the speaker offering immersive 360-degree sound and compatibility with speaker groups via the Google Home app. This allows users to sync multiple speakers for a rich auditory experience. Moreover, the new speaker can pair with a Google TV Streamer, enabling a surround-sound setup that many users have been eagerly anticipating. Crafted from 3D-knitted material, this device not only promises superior functionality but also aims to minimize fabric waste, reflecting Google's commitment to eco-friendly practices. The speaker will be launched in various countries, including the U.S., Canada, U.K., and several others across Europe, Asia, and Australia, set to hit the market in spring 2026.
