After Android QPR2, Google reportedly rolls out bug fix update for Pixel phones

In a surprising move, Google has initiated a new system update for its Pixel smartphones this December, just weeks after launching the broader Android 16 QPR2 and the December Pixel Drop. This update, notably smaller than usual, is specifically aimed at rectifying certain bugs rather than introducing new features. Reports began circulating on Reddit as users of the Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 series discovered an unexpected over-the-air update following their installation of the main December release. The update's file size is approximately 25MB, suggesting it is indeed a focused hotfix. While most reports of the update have emerged from the United States, a few users in the UK have also confirmed receiving it. However, the rollout is not universal, leaving many Pixel owners without access to the update as of yet. Google has yet to release an official changelog or provide factory images and OTA files for this specific build, maintaining only the original December update on its firmware download pages. The availability of the fix for older models, such as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, remains uncertain. Nonetheless, Verizon has stepped in to clarify details about the update for Pixel 8 through Pixel 10 models, which is identified as build BP4A.251205.006.E1. According to reports, this patch addresses issues such as excessive battery drain, touch responsiveness glitches on the Pixel 10, and difficulties with accessing locally cached content after upgrading from Android 14 or earlier versions to Android 16. This additional update marks a busy December for Pixel users, following the December Pixel Drop and the regular security and bug fix updates. While it doesn't bring any new features, the focus on resolving critical issues for a select group of users is evident. As of now, Google has not confirmed plans to expand the update's availability to additional regions or devices.
