Google gives Search a major AI upgrade with Search Agents and Personal Intelligence

During the recent Google I/O 2026 event, the tech powerhouse from Mountain View introduced groundbreaking upgrades to its Search functionality, leveraging advanced AI capabilities. Dubbed as the most significant evolution in over 25 years, the revamped Search experience promises users a more intuitive way to find information, integrating text, images, videos, files, and even data from open Chrome tabs. One of the standout features is the introduction of Gemini 3.5 Flash capabilities, which will serve as the default AI model for Search. This enhancement allows users to input longer, more detailed queries rather than relying solely on brief keywords. The innovative intelligent Search box is designed to comprehend user intent, providing AI-generated suggestions for completing thoughts, posing follow-up questions, and suggesting actions. Additionally, Google has expanded the ways users can execute searches. They can now utilize text, images, files, videos, or even queries from Chrome tabs, creating a truly multi-modal search environment. Users can also engage with the AI through follow-up questions directly from the AI Overview. Another exciting feature is the introduction of Search Agents, which enable users to create, customize, and oversee multiple AI agents tailored to various tasks directly within the Search interface. According to Google, these Information agents will continuously scan the web for trending topics, delivering live updates by gathering data from a variety of online sources, including blogs, news websites, and social media platforms. These agents will also be able to provide personalized updates on finance, shopping, and sports, acting proactively rather than passively answering questions. The rollout of Search Agent will begin this summer for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers. Moreover, Google is enhancing its AI Mode with Personal Intelligence, allowing it to connect seamlessly with apps like Gmail and Google Photos, with plans to integrate Google Calendar in the near future. This feature aims to deliver context-aware responses to users. The advancements also include the incorporation of Antigravity and agentic coding capabilities from Gemini 3.5 Flash into Search, empowering users to create custom fitness trackers and dashboards, among other tools.
